A Day in My Life: Navigating Small Rituals and Big Challenges
Yesterday, I woke up, greeted the day, and made my way to the liquor store. I picked up two shots of Jose Cuervo—a little treat for myself. I have a complicated relationship with these daily trips to the liquor store. On one hand, it feels tedious, but on the other, I keep my alcohol purchases very small to avoid developing a serious drinking habit. It’s a balancing act of sorts; right now, my alcohol spending hovers around $120 a month, breaking down to about $4 a day. Not ideal, but manageable for now.
After shopping for my tequila, I felt it was important to treat my dog as well. I swung by the pet bakery and picked up some tasty treats that would make my furry friend’s day. It’s these little things that bring a smile, right? With treats in hand, I continued my errands, stopping at Walmart for limes to mix with my drinks—because what’s tequila without a slice of lime? I also splurged on some black votive candles; there's something about lighting a candle that brings a sense of calm to my space.
Once I returned home, I settled in for a relaxed afternoon. I love catching up on various podcasts I find on YouTube. There’s a certain allure to the conversations that unfold, and I often daydream about being featured on another podcast myself. However, it’s tough to get noticed, especially when you’re not exactly swimming in money. In fact, I’m knee-deep in credit card debt, which adds a layer of difficulty to pursuing such passions.
Today may look a lot like yesterday as I find comfort in routine, but I hope for change on the horizon. Perhaps one day I'll share my own voice on those podcasts, sharing my journey and insights, however imperfect they may be.
For now, I'll continue with my daily rituals. Through the small acts of treating my dog, enjoying a drink, and lighting a candle, I try to divert my mind from the weight of my financial burdens and find contentment in the moment. Tomorrow is a new day, and with it comes the hope of something different.
