The Easier Path: Why I Stopped Cooking
Cooking used to be a regular part of my life, but in recent times, I’ve decided to take a different route when it comes to meals. With the blend of convenience and simplicity at the forefront of my choices, I now primarily rely on frozen meals and dining out.
I don't want to share kitchen space
One of the main reasons I’ve stepped away from cooking is the lack of a personal kitchen space. Sharing a kitchen with my parents can be challenging, and it hinders my ability to create the culinary experiences I once enjoyed. The hectic routine of coordinating space and time has made it less appealing to whip up my own meals.
I'm tired of calculating calories
Additionally, the constant need to tally calories has become a burden. Trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle while managing the intricacies of meal preparation isn’t something I want to focus on anymore. With frozen meals, I appreciate the straightforwardness—the nutrition information is already calculated for me. Some restaurants already have the calories listed on the menu, which makes my life much easier. I want to enjoy eating, not do complex math problems. (By the way, I'm on a strict 1,277 calories per day diet. I've been on this diet for over three years).
I'm tired of washing dishes
And let’s not overlook the least glamorous aspect of cooking: washing dishes. The endless cycle of cooking, eating, and cleaning has worn me out. Since stepping back from the kitchen, I’ve been able to eliminate that overwhelming chore from my daily life. There is no dishwasher in the kitchen at my house, so I'm forced to do dishes by hand, which has become too tedious for me in recent months.
Conclusion
In light of these changes, I’ve found that not cooking has brought a newfound ease to my routine. Sure, it may lack the creativity and satisfaction that cooking from scratch provided, but for now, the simplicity is more than enough for me. Sometimes, the easiest path is the one that allows for more freedom and less hassle in your day-to-day life .
As I’ve embraced this shift, it’s clear that food doesn’t have to be complicated to be enjoyable. Whether it’s a frozen meal that’s ready in minutes or a delicious dish from my favorite restaurant, I’ve learned to appreciate the convenience that comes with not cooking. It’s a choice that adds a bit of ease to my life—something I’m grateful for.
